The Rainbow (as it's known amongst the
Birdsong circles) started in early 2005 as an in-house
project. We had some nice smaller pieces and unusual
strips kicking around, and Scott decided to piece them
together into one body. After several arrangements, it
all fell into place - Alder, Mahogany, flamed Poplar,
Purpleheart, Walnut, Maple, Mahogany, Walnut, Red Oak,
Alder, Mahogany, Poplar, Cypress.
Over the next few months, gradually it took shape. It
was glued up in sections - first two strips, then the
two more would be gluing up while one was added to the
first... and so forth. Getting this many pieces to fit
together flawlessly was a challenge, as was sanding it
all after it was shaped. The densities of the woods used
varied from soft Cypress to extremely hard Purpleheart
It now lives in Virginia where Joshua covers his varied
musical terrain with its sweet tones.
