Made a couple of Birdsong PB models (the Birdsong-ized EB-flavored version) as two pickup "PB3" special orders and figured I'd toss another in for inventory while making those two. This one is super lightweight Spanish cedar and it's almost ready to fly the nest! $2400
A number of years back we were granted by destiny the chance to meld in a little bit of what we know that makes our short scale basses really work into areas the old SD Curlee basses maybe didn't so well. The greatest blend yet of original SD Curlee looks, tone & vibe with Birdsong handling, playability & build quality are the Standard76 and 78s. This Texas pecan centered mahogany blank could go either way, with a great maple neck, and set you back around $1600.
This one is a treat for the eyes of the more granola-oriented among you with its beautiful natual knotty alder wings and Texas pecan center. Planning on a maple neck & board and trimming this standard Birdsong Cortobass out in rosewood for beautiful woody contrast and setting it all off with gold or black hardware. It'll run you $2450 with case & shipping.
Other inventory builds on the clipboard:
19C-384 Mahogany Cortobass (or Corto2, or Cbass)
19C-389 Rat Rod themed off of my 1960 Pontiac Catalina
19C-392 Rat Rod themed off of Sarge the ratty ‘74 Road Runner street machine
MAKE AN OFFER, we need the space! Sold as a set showing the process and each having a unique story, here are 3 Curlee Star basses from 1982. First two are part of the “Curlee stash” score of NOS early ‘80s parts & original tooling out of the original SD Curlee Matteson, IL workshop - one with the neck set but otherwise unfinished, and one still wrapped from its pull from the paint booth in the last minutes of the original workshop (I call it “The last Curlee”). The third was owned by Alec Jon Such of Bon Jovi and is near mint except for a repair on the tail. Great chance to own three rare pieces and play one right away.
Part of the “Curlee stash” score of NOS early ‘80s parts & original tooling out of the original SD Curlee Matteson, IL workshop. This is a raw shaped poplar Curlee Star guitar with a good long tenon maple neck (bolt-in or glue-in for set neck). You fret, rout for pickup(s), fit & finish. $195.
