Headstock... every one hand woodburned.

Here's a classy touch... if you're into it, we'll put on a matching, engraved "Custom built for" plaque.

The optional thumb rest is one you can put anywhere... we can make it out of the same wood as the body (like the Flame Maple one shown) or a contrasting wood like Ebony.

Here's a two pickup Sadhana in Walnut with an extra Ebony stringer. This was some wild wood!

Above is the standard single pickup Sadhana, shown with optional black hardware... beautiful Walnut with an Ebony center stripe, or "stringer". We can do Purpleheart or Maple at your request too, sometimes other woods. Carved Ebony thumbrest (standard on single pickup basses), volume and 6-position varitone. The FAQ page answers lots of wood, pickup & wiring questions.

This Sadhana shows off some creative & beautiful use of multiple woods. All Birdsong basses feature  5-bolt  dressed away neck mounting, through - body stringing, and ergonomic strap button placement. They worked great first - then we made them look pretty! The philosophy page has a lot about this.

Size comparison:
Birdsong Sadhana vs. the "Ol' Standard"...

Why short scale?
The "industry standard" Leo Fender designs are not perfect fits for everybody. Due to stature or hand size, or the desire for a more compact and lightweight bass, many look to short scales. Short scales also have a unique warmth to the low end and midrange growl which records well and is more suitable for some styles and playing environments than the big "piano tone" of a 34" scale bass. Due to its lower tension, a neck pickup in a short scale has an almost "upright bass" roundness to it. The problem areas have been of balance, depth of tone, sustain, and overall quality... all of which were designed IN to the Birdsongs before a curve was even drawn.

These basses are made made for Anyone looking for a smaller, lighter, more comfortable bass guitar but who wishes to play something of pro quality, built by a small company in the USA. Dedicated students, women, bassists with small hands & guitar players should check it out too! The Sadhana is a little bit wilder & swoopier than our more traditional looking Cortobass. Definitely not subtle!

"You didn't tell me that this bass plays itself. This may be the best design innovation since Leo Fender was in the business... arrived in-tune, unbelievable!" ~Jeff in Oregon

"I play a multitude of diferent styles and this bass is able to handle all of them with ease. Matter of fact, it is replacing a custom built Mike Rowan Bass, a Rickenbacker 4001, and a Fender Jazz. Something that is shocking everyone I let try it out is that the bass is NOT using active electronics. It does not need to! It has all of the versatility of the Bartolini's in my Rowan, it has the growl of my Fender, and the zing of the Rick - and I can dial in any of these sounds. It is NOT a one-trick pony by any means. This is the first bass I have owned that does it all. I credit that not only to the brilliant design and making the best use of the components, but also to the fact that everything just WORKS so well on the bass. Scott and Jamie from Birdsong are by FAR the best people in the world I have ever dealt with in regard to ANY product!" ~Mark in Missouri
