(Welcome to the Uncle Johnny box page, part of my memorial to the legacy in wood of my mentor and friend Uncle Johnny Kirtland. Please remove your hat, even if you're a little pointy-headed.)

(Johnny made literally hundreds of boxes, along with paper clip holders, tiny candle holders, and whatever else the piece of wood in his hand was to become through him. He felt it. Then he just trimmed away whatever wasn't part of the vision... with careful cuts and respect for the material... the result? Simple beauty, natural and functional, with the life force of the hands soaking in with the finish to cure. This isn't just how to build something of wood... but a philosophy of life.)
